  • Scotty I have noisy lifter in my 2013 Subaru Outback with a 3.6 liter engine. It has about 136k on it. It's bad when the weather is cold, but quiets down in the summer. Do I need to worry about it

It means the engine is wearing a little - I would just live with it. Noisy lifters are fairly common on Subaru 3.6L 6 cylinder engines with that kind of mileage. Keep clean oil in the engine and meticulously change it every 4K miles. On cold days, let the car warm up for a few minutes before you start driving.

A minor valve tap is generally not a big deal. I've had quite a few cars with that kind of noise and with no other issues. For that matter my current driver has had a valve tap that comes and goes for the last 10 years and it hasn't affected anything.

change the oil more frequently and add Lucas oil stabilizer when you change the oil.
