A friend just purchased a 2021 Subaru Forester and has noticed an item on the paperwork (listed in subject line). We can't find any information on what it is online, any idea? The dealer indicated that it is a physical device they want to install for about $230.
Lock for the center console storage?

Lol. I never saw that before.
Might help in a smash-n-grab.
IMHO, it’s basically a tiny safe in the center console.
My friend has one and hates it. You lose space, and they don’t usually need that much security for the stuff they keep.
With that said. If you like to store important stuff that can fit in a center console in your car, it could be a worthwhile upgrade.
Maybe an upgrade module for the alarm system.
Shock sensor? Bang on the door (not too hard) and see if the horn starts beeping.
GPS and shutoff device for the finance company? Dealer B.S. to pad the bill? I would have told the dealer, "I don't want that" unless they were able to come up with a compelling reason why it's worth $230 to the buyer.
Thanks for the quick reply! That makes sense and it's in the cost range. However, my buddy says the salesman showed him the device and seems to think it was about 1.5"long x 1" wide x 1/4" thick with electrical wires coming out of it. Interesting, maybe he's "mis-remembering" (wouldn't be the first time, LOL!). Pete
I replied to the first reply before I saw the others, thanks! My buddy did decline it at the purchase time, but received a call (they left a message) trying to schedule installation, hence the question about what it is. I think the console vault is a possibility, or an attachment/mod to the alarm system. I just now instructed him to call the dealer back and demand an explanation of precisely what it is and to "politely"remind them that he declined, LOL! Pete
