I am the original owner of a 2004 Camry 4 cylinder manual transmission made in Japan with 178k miles. Never given me any problems (other than failed automatic windows) until now.
At times it surges on acceleration, and at times will also idle a little weird. Might just be me, but it seems to do it more on cooler days....?...
I replaced the front O2 sensor last year for a sensor code, and the engine light came right back on with a P0032 code for bank 1 sensor 1 (which, as far as I know, is the sensor in front that I replaced.) I have a hard time believing that this is causing the surge since the light has been on for such a long time, but also don't know why the light wouldn't have went off after replacement.
I recently unhooked the battery which cleared codes, and the surging went into overdrive, but only for a few days, then left again... not sure if there's a reason for that either...
My son says it feels like we have oval wheels when it happens. I want him to drive this car, but now I'm worried about lack of acceleration.
I have put fuel injector cleaner through my tank twice back to back, but it still surges from time to time with no warning.
I have read posts in other places describing similar problems with the same model throwing no codes at all, with no answers.
Where do I start with this? I was really thankful I kept this car until my son started driving... Now I'm frustrated that I can't completely trust it.
Well of course make sure spark plugs are good air filters could change the fuel filter but if it still does it I would advise having the fuel injectors pressure clean does it get old they can do that
