I have a 1988 ford F250 with a 7.5 Liter V8, automatic transmission and 100,000 miles on the odometer. Ford recommends 10/40 conventional oil, which I now use. Does this engine need oil with additional zinc added or can I run a synthetic oil? Thanks

I would stick with a good conventional oil due to age.

Stay with conventional as it might start leaking if you switch to synthetic. I have a 1993 Toyota pickup with the 22R-E 4 cyl engine and from day one when we bought it in 1993 used synthetic to this day. The front main seal leaked which I replaced when I did the timing chain replacement. Maybe use a high mileage oil.
