I have a 2021 Tacoma trd off-road 4x4 double cab with almost 15,000. Have you heard any good/bad opinions on the Magnuson Supercharger System to upgrade this model of tacoma to a v8?

  • Well superchargers give you a lot of power but of course they will wear the engine out faster. If you're going to use a supercharger, I would advise paying a mechanic to install it. Who knows what he's doing and to reprogram everything

You mean V8 power levels? Yeah, but 1/4th the longevity.

You'll end up voiding just about any warranty you have.

Boosting an NA engine will decrease its longevity plain & simple. On the flip side, that kit outputs 5-6 psi, which really isnt much. Its not clear to me what the tuning method is for this kit either.

it'll be alot more fun to drive, but will it make it to 150-200k miles? Probably not. Is that worth it to you?

This forum is best for DIY maintenance, trouble shooting, and good/bad purchases with the intention of longevity & low costs in mind. For something like this I'd look at taco forums to see what others have done. I'm sure someone has this kit installed on their truck.

Need some clarification.  Magnuson makes a Roots-type supercharger kit for the 5.7 V8 in the Tundra.  Not a particularly popular upgrade, but reviews are popular.

I take it from your question that they are now making one for the V6 in the Taco, but I have not seen anything about it anywhere.  I doubt anyone here has had experience with it.  Magnuson makes good stuff, so if they are making a supercharger kit for the Toyota V6 it’s probably ok.

But it won’t make the V6 a V8.  Also, the V8 kit is not going to be compatible with the 6.

Also, like Scotty says, it would need professional installation.  If they have recommended installers who have been certified by Magnuson, I’d use them.

Ok I checked their website. They do make a blower kit for the Tacoma, and it’s probably a reasonably solid unit. Biggest downside is that with tax, shipping and installation, it’s about $10-grand, all in.

Agreed!
