Hey, 2005 Ford E-350 XLT 5.4 2 valve w/4r70 RWD tranny, 230K miles, wagon
Last week, started noticing small puddles in the driveway.
After a visual inspection, the tailshaft housing has a fair sized crack in it, from which a moderate amount of fluid leaks. It still shifts fine, nothing feels or ever felt out of the ordinary. However, in about a week and a half I've lost and had to add a quart.
I need the truck to tow around maybe 5-7K lbs in a couple weeks. I wouldn't mind just adding fluid, but I'm assuming with the additional stress that I should get it replaced as soon as possible? Anyone know if it's a job reasonable for a DIY'er, or an estimate how much it could cost to get done at a shop?
Thanks
I don't know how much it will cost to fix but I wouldn't even want to drive it that way, let alone tow with it.
usually you just drop the driveshaft, but if I were you I'd find a service manual for it so I don't miss anything and really bork things up.
You'll have to call some shops for a quote.
