I test drove a new Kia Telluride and was very impressed, but I was wondering if my $38,000 would be better spent on a used Lexus GX460 with 70 -80K miles.
If you are looking for a vehicle to keep for as long as possible beyond warranty, the Kia Telluride is too new to really know how it will hold up. However, historically Hyundai/Kia products are not going to be as reliable as a Toyota/Honda so it’s a risk buying it hoping to get lots of life out of it. But if you only plan to keep a few years and keep under warranty and/or lease it - it should be OK. Lots of good reviews on the SUV, but they don’t go into reliability of course.
Not sure your plans for the vehicle, but if you plan on keeping long term I’d definitely go with the Lexus GX460. It’s a proven platform! Just make sure a trusted, honest mechanic checks it out first and says it’s OK if you do buy the Lexus.
If your keeping your brand new car for 5 years / 60k miles, then try out the telluride. Or maybe even 10 years / 100,000 miles. That’s how long various warranties are for the car.
But if you want something time tested to last longer, go with the older Lexus.
