How does the transmission for this car rate? I've been told to stay away from them. Is this a good idea?

If that is absolutely positively the actual mileage on the car and the mechanic says the transmission still good go ahead and buy it but do have the tranny checked out

I do not know why you would stay away. The auto trans is good and manual is almost bulletproof.
Have a mechanic check it out and hey, I'd offer $3000 and take it if it checks out. Would be a fun car to have.
