Temperature Gauge Error

Greetings from Romania, Scotty. Can you help me out here please? I have a 2011 Volkswaggen Sharan 2.0 diesel engine with 270.000 km. The temperature gauge goes up to 90 when the car stands still and drops signifficantly when I start to drive it then it goes up again and down again. I changed the thermostat, changed the temperature sensor unit, I did a headgasket leak test, did a compression test, did a scan diagnostic which came empty and NONE of those things solved the issue. The car also comes equipped with an auxiliary heating unit, could that be the problem?

Thanks

Of course it has a radiator cap.  The VW part number is 5Q0121321.  Good luck!

The confusion might be because what we refer to as a "radiator cap" is frequently found on a pressurized overflow tank rather than the radiator itself.

Thanks Chuck.

The pressure cap sits on the expansion tank, rather than the radiator itself. It performs the same purpose. But I don't think that's the problem. A bad cap would cause it to overheat. There's a problem with the fans and temperature control loop. Almost every VW I've seen has cooling problems , and that's why they're pieces of crap.

Get a new radiator cap.

It doesn't have one.

What does it not have? A radiator cap?
