Ten-Year-Old Like-new Tires Question

Hello,

I have a 2013 Lexas ES350 that has 4,000 miles on it. I bought it new and keep it garaged. I try to drive it at least once a week with part of that driving being on the freeway. Everything on it is original except the battery. I keep a battery minder on it when I'm not driving it.

Regarding maintenance, I have the oil changed each year and have the tires rotated. I bought some off those test strips Scotty recommended and tested the coolant and brake fluid, and they test fine. My concern is the ten-year-old set of Bridgestone tires that came on the car. There are no cracks in the rubber, and they don't appear to be flat spotted. The TPMS system is still working perfectly.

My question, should I put a new set of tires on it just to be safe. The age of the tires bothers me a little. I have no plans to sell the car anytime soon, so I need to figure out what to do. I think I already know the answer, but I didn't want to hear it from someone who sells tires.

Thanks.

They have a limited shelf life, even being in a semi-controlled environment. Using tires every day basically keeps them from dry rotting. When they're not being used, they harden and become brittle. Replace them.

100% agree with @justin-shepherd

Tires do not like to sit. You have a nice car, but you could total it if a front tire blew out at the wrong time.

Tires have a shelf life of 6 years, maybe a tad longer if they are garaged. Without being driven much, it could actually be worse for them.

Get a new set and don't worry about it for another 6 years.

OK, thanks guys. That's pretty much what I was thinking.
