Thermostat housing

Hi scotty! Two days ago my Peugoet 308 VTI started smoking and making boiling and howling sounds. I got it to the peugeot service. The thermostat housing was leaking they said. 350$ in parts and 370$ in labor?!?. The car is 112000miles driven and from 2009. Should i get rid of the car which otherwise has been great maintained?, and put my few pennies in buying a toyota or honda jazz instead? /coololdmansfan

Fix it and enjoy.

Its possible it also blew a head gasket/warped head/cracked head. Modern engines don't tolerate being overheated.

Need to have cooling system pressurized and combustion leak detection test done...after thermostat housing is sealed.

I had simular problem on my 97 blazer 4.3l and 93 olds 3.1l, after changing thermostat and flushing the system i relieved the air from the system and it was enough. But those engines are diffrent, i would recommend atleast opening the hood, removing the cap from the radiator and starting the car and let it idle. Air will escape you can also smell the coolant and oil to see if it smells diffrently then usual. Hope this helps.
