What are your thoughts about buying a 2012 Chevrolet Silverado Crew Cab with a 5.3 L V8 with about 145,000 miles on the odometer? Is this truck reliable? Are there any major known problems with the vehicle mechanically?

Do not buy it if you value your money.
Three words ... AFM camshaft failure
GM stopped building good trucks (except for maybe the heavy duty 2500) after 2006 especially with the proliferation of cylinder deactivation (GM calls it AFM or active fuel management) in their engines for the trucks and other vehicles. Overall quality beyond the powertrain is poor including the electronics (susceptible to electrical gremlins). If you are going to stick to the Big Three and want newer (after 2010), you are better of with a 2011-2014 Ford F-150 with the 1st Gen 5.0L V8.
I would not buy any GM truck built after 2005. AFM junk.
