Hi
Im looking for some help on whether or not this would be a good starter car.

I think u meant 1987 because 1897 is over 120 years old lol. The XJ is probably the best Jag they made back then but it's still a Jag and will cost a fortune to repair and maintain. I wouldn't buy one as a "starter" car. As a weekend toy it's fine but do have a mechanic check it out since its got a lot of miles.

I think you meant 1987 or 1997. Anyways, no, they’re endless money pits and that’s too old to be a daily driver. You could get a Lexus LS, but they’re still expensive in maintenance even though they’re good cars. You could get a Mercury Grand Marquis or even a Lincoln Town Car as they were solid cars.
