I found someone selling a 1987 jaguar xj sedan 4d but it has a timing belt instead of a chain. Do you think this would be a bad investment?

It would be a bad investment in the sense that any Jaguar tends to be a money pit.

I wouldn't buy a 34 year old jaguar and expect it to be a good investment. In regard to a timing belt specifically, it's not a big deal. Just need to be changed out as per specified service intervals. It varies by car

No. As long as the car checks out and the belt is changed when needed.
