Thoughts on Kia

Hey Scotty! I'm currently looking for a new 'used' car for college. I've st my eyes on buying hondas, toyotas, or subarus. However, almost all cars I found have either rebuilt title, too many miles, or over my price range from both dealerships and private parties. I've noticed during my search some kia optimas for sale in my price range with low miles and clean titles. What are your thoughts on the brand?

Nope. Avoid those Kia and Hyundai cars.

The quality may have gotten "somewhat" better, but that's like saying losing by 10 is better than losing by 11. They are still extremely subpar vehicles with a load of issues.

I would challenge and say though quality has increased looking on a 20 30 year period, in the last 10 years they have actually been making cosmetically quality looking but mechanically cheap and low quality vehicles. Parents own an 09 Kia and the difference in reliability between the newer ones are very very shocking.

nah I would skip on the Optima the 2.0 and 2.4 engines are outright garbage they are known for blowing up before 100k miles. Consider a Mazda 6, not as reliable as a toyota or honda but definetly better than a Kia.

Kias have come along for a budget friendly car they’re not bad and the warranties are decent as well if your looking new enough to still be under warranty.

Careful......Hyundai and Kia warranties DO NOT transfer to new owners. They are only good for the original owner. In order for it to transfer, it MUST be a Hyundai Certified vehicle. In other words, overpriced. Just wanted to make a mention of that.

My son had 2 Optimas. He never had any problems what so ever, never. Only thing he ever had to do was routine oil changes.

How many miles over how many years in what kind of conditions were those Optima's driven?

What years were the Optimas? The older ones were much simpler are you talking 06 08 09 or like 2011 2012 and newer?
