1999 Ford Ranger 4.0L OHV 250k mi
I have a ticking noise coming from the engine. Had it looked at by a mechanic in town he believes it is lifter noises and recommend I get a remanufactured engine. I was wondering what your advice would be in my situation and what you think the noise might be from this video.

Replace the lifters with new. Why would you need a new engine? Find a new "mechanic."
Does this sound like lifters to you? A family friend of mine said it could be an exhaust manifold leak?

It could be. Get a stethoscope and fine out where the noise is coming from.
