2011 Chevrolet 2500HD ticking on cold start

I have a 2011 Chevy 2500hd with a 6.0 gas motor, automatic transmission, and 113,000 miles on it. When I start the truck there is a pretty loud ticking noise. It gets louder when I rev the engine and goes away after driving for 15-20 minutes. The mechanic my dad has been using for years diagnosed it as a lifter tick and said the oil ports are probably dirt. He recommended adding 1/2 a cup of Marvel Mystery Oil to the engine oil and running it until the next oil change (about 1500 miles) to see if that fixes it before paying for any repairs.

Do you think this is a good idea? Also, what can I expect if that doesn’t work.

Could be your exhaust manifold, may have a crack in it.  My 2004 Sequoia does the same.

What weight oil are your running now?  If you run a thinner synthetic oil, it might loosen up what is probably a stuck lifter, in lieu of replacing the lifter set.
