What happens if the timing chain breaks? on any car

At best you'll need to replace just the chain and set the cams and crank back to the correct timing. Sprockets could need replacing because you're throwing a heavy chain off of them as it comes off, possibly shearing teeth. At worst, it will send the pistons into the valves, in addition to trashing the sprockets and basically turn the engine into a piece of metal your neighborhood scrappers would love to get their hands on.
