We are shopping for a car for my mother. We found a 2009 toyota Corolla with 126,000 on the odometer. It is Japan made.
We just need to know if there are any red flags for this make and model we should be looking for? Oil burning etc... It is at a used car lot was a rental car also.

The only red flag I see is - it was a rental.
Do not buy cars which have been used as rentals as they may bite you in future with hidden problems.

If it's the Corolla with the 1.8L engine, it's probably fine. I'd make sure to have it checked out by a reliable person first since rental cars do usually get the snot beat out of them. But, if it's a good deal and passes an inspection it's probably fine. I used to have a 2009 Corolla LE that I bought with 220,000 miles on it. Beat the snot out of it as a taxi cab for over a year and then sold it to my dad since he needed an inexpensive car. It's still running strong with zero issues two years later.
