So the car is outside and need about estimated $40 a year on $1.80 bottle of deminerialsed water. instead of spending money on water... the car owner rather get a pay for a new radiator by saving buying demineralised water.

Is this the best idea? Or will tap water affect more than the radiator?

CAr is 1995 camry

it shouldn't be consuming that much water

Maybe change the radiator cap. Scotty recommended this if coolant was just disappearing.

Yeah, I agree with the others saying that you should be more concerned about the water/coolant loss rather than the price of distilled water. I also think it's a bad idea running tap water. You always want to use distilled water in cooling systems. I bought a gallon of Sparkletts distilled water the other day at Albertson's for $0.89, it's really cheap. They even do bulk sales on occasion too (5 for $2.50, 10 for $5 etc.).

it's outside in the heat. that $40 is for a whole year.

Doesn't matter how hot it is outside. The engine is hundreds of degrees. You need to fix your leak. Try a new radiator cap.
