Toyota 05 Matrix Totalled ?

Scotty, I'm the original owner of a 2005 Matrix XR with only 51,000 miles that the insurance company wants to total because of rear end damage to the back bumper and left rear quarter panel. It also needs a new rear axle. I was hit on the side by the gas door cover and the airbags did not deploy. They want to give me 5500 but a very good body shop can repair for 5400 complete including tax. The insurance still wants to total out the car. What should I do ?

Thanks, Gilly

It is totally up to you. If you love your car, you can fix it and probably drive it till the wheels fall off.

Thanks I would love to have it repaired but the insurance company would rather total the car. Gilly

Thankfully, it is not their choice.

Yep, but be warned, that ins company may decide not to insure it if you do repair it... insurance company's make dealerships appear as angels...imo.

It's the person who hit me insurance company. My insurance co. says they will still insure me and the Matrix even if it's a salvage title. It's my first accident claim ever.

How does insurance work anyway? If the number is close, how do they decide what to total and what to fix?

In Ohio if the cost of repair is over 80% of the value of the car the insurance company will total.

It’s your choice, but due the quality of workmanship and parts these days. I would search the used car market for a similar 2005 Matrix, with 51 K and see what the insurance company says.

I have found a few Corollas but not a Matrix. Thanks for the suggestion.

Remember if the car gets rebuilt the title will show it as such and value of car worth less.  Also the matrix is the same as the Pontiac Vibe by the way.

Thanks Dion, I know the value would be less but I would drive for at least three more years. I hold on to my
cars for a long time. There is a Vibe in my parking lot and the Matrix is a little nicer. I know Scotty loves his
Matrix. Gilly
