Any opinions on the 2.4 and 2.7 liter i4s found on the Tacoma and 4Runner? Is it more reliable than the 3400 V6?

All the engines you mentioned are reliable. The V6 has more power if you need it.

Even on the Toyotas usually the I4 will last a little longer than the V6 but both can go hundreds of thousands of miles, so you can’t really go wrong either way.

My 98 4Runner has 3.4L engine. It’s had a few issues over the years. Had to change out a few injector. Replace the alternator. Replace the radiator. But that’s over a period of 23 years and 184,000 miles. Otherwise it’s held up well. And it’s running great. My vote is for the 3.4
