I recently bought a 2004 Highlander, with 149,000 miles on it (body and interior looks almost NEW-- amazing condition!) . I'm needing to get my oil changed, but don't know what type would be best, and don't know what the original owner was using... The oil cap says 5W30, but is there a best brand to use, and should I go with conventional, synthetic, synthetic blend, or high mileage? I have read that you should never switch from conventional to synthetic, but should do at least 2 changes of a blend first... but can you switch directly to high mileage oil... Thanks so much for your advice. I am sure I will have more questions. This is my first Toyota, and I am loving it. 🙂
If it says 5-30 use 5-30 Synthetic, not synthetic blend, but full synthetic, change every 5k.
you can use conventional oil if you want, you can also switch back and fourth if you choose to do so. You shouldn’t, however combine both together.
Brand wise, pick one, Casterol, Mobil, Quaker State, etc.
I personally, use Quaker State, Walmart 5 Quarts $18 bucks.....
The oil cap says 5W30
And that’s what you use. Every 5000 miles.
