Hey Scotty,

thanks for all the content,

I have a 2004 4Runner with about 236000 miles. I need new catalytic converters but everywhere I go they say it’s about $2000/$2500. I live I northern  Virginia but still, the pasts are only $500 tops. Any suggestions? I bought a diagnostic tool so that how I found out.
I also tried cata clean fluid but didn’t work. What’s racquet 😄

thanks,

What's inside a catalytic converter?

Platinum.

Palladium.

Rhodium.

Check the prices of these metals.

At least you don't live in Commiefornia where the C.A.R.B. racket makes you pay double the price. (Some other states have bought into that racket as well but I don't think Virginia is one of them.)

You could try the soap and water method of converter cleaning, at least if it's intact inside and the stupid thing is not too rusty to survive removal.

Cats were expensive to begin with, and now they are even more outrageously expensive.  Because of all the thefts.

Try the MagnaFlow website. I doubt it is much cheaper, but it doesn’t hurt to look.

have you tried searching on ebay? They have decent offers on spare parts

Many of the parts sold on eBay are inferior counterfeit Chinese knockoffs. Not a good place to shop for critical parts.
