Hey Scotty! I’ve been following you on social media for years and I’m a huge fan! Thank you for all the content you put out for us!
I have a 2011 Toyota Avalon. I’ve owned it for over three years now and it has almost 170,000 miles! I do a lot of highway driving. Anyway, I want to make this car last forever! I don’t want to spend money on getting a newer car. I always keep up with it’s maintenance and use the highest quality products. I’m due for an oil change soon. And I already saw your video about how great amazons oil is so I purchased that. But I was wondering if I should also look in to getting a oil additive or not. The car doesn’t have any issues or make any noises but will an additive be a good idea for prevention of problems? And if so which additive should I get?
My transmission does sometimes struggle to shift a little. Should I add a transmission additive too? If so, which one?
Lastly. Do you have any other recommendations to make this Avalon drive forever? I know you don’t necessarily agree with it but I only fill up with shell premium nitro+ because it is a higher compression V6 in the Avalon and that should help with lasting longer even though it’s expensive.
Thank you!
Following the factory maintenance schedule is your best option for long life. Of course, nothing lasts forever.
I would not start adding additives into your oil if you aren't having any issues. Additives are a bandaid treatment...not preventative maintenance. As for the transmission, have you ever changed the fluid? It is due to be changed every 5 years/60k miles. If you've never changed it, that could be your issue.
