[Solved] Electric parking brake problem

toyota avensis manual 1.6d 2018, the auto brake failed to disengage my dash lit up with 4 yellow warnings including the engine management symbol.

it also has check parking brake displayed. Which I can’t get rid of for more than 20seconds.

Is there a way to try and reset the system or is this a Toyota dealer ship only?

im praying this isn’t an ECU issue as can’t afford to replace.

Any ideas?

Just incase anyone else has this problem. After a visit to the dealer ship which all I got was a mechanic scratching his head saying I’ve no idea and a £120 bill.

searched the internet and the problem can come from the fuel cap leaking.

Very sceptical I wound plumbers tape around fuel cap. Started the car out went the warning lights and the electric brakes worked.

bought a new fuel cap not a problem since

Thanks for reporting back. Much appreciated.
It's so bizarre that your brakes were affected.

Thanks for the feedback, indeed. So, "leaky gas cap kills electric parking brakes", that's a new one . lol

That is truly bizarre. It's proof of what Scotty has said many times, that everything in modern cars is connected and all those systems affect each other.

There's not a lot of love for electric parking brakes here. You could try to do a scan for codes but it's probably going to take a bidirectional dealer-level scan tool to sort that out.

Yeah I can’t stand the electric brake system, I figured was going to be a dealer. Toyota just went down on my reliability scale.
