Interesting vid on Toyota electrification in the near future. Looks like they're jumping into the pool along with everyone else.

Awesome, thanks for sharing.
I don't see electric cars as being a particularly good thing.
I don't either, seems everyone is jumping on the band-wagon.
Depends on how it is executed. On the one hand much fewer moving parts which is a good thing, especially for folks that are not car people and don’t want to maintain their vehicles. But, to mandate it and to not offer something for everyone still (like gas, hydrogen, hybrid) - I have an issue with that. I personally will stick to gas for as long as possible, but eventually will get an EV (I am still young enough that it’s in my future). Also, companies like Tesla that don’t share any service/repair information - that bothers me too. Anyhow, to each their own, and let’s see how all this plays out over time.
I'm old enough (Scotty's age) that gasoline power won't be gone in my lifetime. I don't object to electric cars per se, but believe that as it sits today battery electric is a boondoggle that's being forced onto a market where the vast majority of buyers are not particularly asking for that technology. Now, if a suitable long-lived and inexpensive mobile method of producing or storing electric power is developed then at least I could see some benefit to them but we are not there yet. Also I'm way too cheap to buy any new car. It's doubtful there will be usable old electric vehicles around to buy for cheap until I'm pushing up daisies!
Yeah, I feel that way too. I plan to get a gas vehicle this year or next and trying to get 15+ years out of it so puts me out to 2036-2037. We’ll see (in my case) where we are at by then. I am already not a fan of the modern engine technologies (turbo, small displacement, cylinder deactivation), 8, 9, 10-speed ATs and CVTs, or even plug-ins and I tend to keep my vehicles a long time.
SAME!
I'm young, but I never trust new car technologies.
I don't trust even 3 cylinder or turbocharged small engines,
the DCTs and modern CVTs are all garbage, give me a 5/6 speed auto!
I think EVs will not only cost fortunes to repair (look at Tesla reliability scores), they will be impossible to DIY repair and I don't see any electric car lasting for over 5 years.
But, as a cheap, inner city transport? eh why not.
cars like the new Renualt 5 are an existing future, but imo they will never be as long lasting as a Corolla petrol.
I’d rather they concentrate on hydrogen. 🤷♂️
If the total cost of ownership is cheaper for me, and it’s not inconvenient to fuel, I’m down.
