been reading that 2000-mid 2000 camrys, lexus, and avalons have shifting issues. thats sad because I'm interested in a 2005 avalon and liked that they had timing chains. are these transmissions a problem? thanks scotty.

At that age, irrespective of whether they used to have problems, I’d have the vehicle thoroughly inspected by a good mechanic. If the engine & transmission are still in good shape, I’d go ahead.
As always, negotiate hard on the price for a vehicle with known failure modes.
