Looking at a salvage 2017 Ford Expedition XLT with 60k miles for $17,000.

According to the car fax the accident was in august 2018 so it’s been on the road a few years since then. I inspected it and drove it and it seems like a great deal. Looks and feels brand new.

it was originally sold in Texas so I wanna double check and make sure it wasn’t flooded in hurricane Harvey, but if that checks out as well, should I jump on it?

These rebuilt and salvage title threads are killing my soul guys.

Please....PLEASE....stop buying/considering to buy what is, by all facts, LITERALLY garbage. Salvage is literally junk. The car/truck/SUV is worth whatever its weight fetches in scrap and LITERALLY not $1 more. Anything above that is a fool parting with his money and someone making nefarious profit.

it depends how bad the accident was, and what was damaged. If that information wasn't available, I wouldn't gamble on it. Not for $17k

Front driver side, looked all in the engine bay and down the drivers side and it looks like whoever fixed it did a great job because everything looks near factory. The car has had over 40,000 miles put on it since the accident per the car fax so I think I’m confident in its reliability. Any other advice?

in that case I wouldn't touch it. That's asking for a headache.

Thanks for the help!

This seems to risky.  The car was totalled at only 1 year old. That tells me the damage was severe.

Best advice I could give, is have a trusted mechanic inspect it. If they say it seems good, and you feel good about the car, and the price go for it. Just realize if you ever sell it, you will not receive anything for it due to the title.

40 thousand dollars worth of damage at least to total that thing in its first year.

I'm not sure I would take such a risk. Plus, even if it was a clean title, Expeditions are known for electrical issues as they age, so a salvage title would be the top of the cake.

I'd find the KBB TRADE IN value with 60k miles and subtract 40% of it, see what you get. I bet its not $17k.

Just checked: Edmunds value without an accident clean condition: $24,000
Subtract 40%, $14,000
Then you would want to haggle on the price etc. so I wouldn't pay more than 12-13k.
I would only buy salvage titles if they an extremly good deal, like what happened to my father's Honda.
10k miles on it for 1/3 of the msrp price. The Expedition is basically half way through its life.

Thank you for that advice, and thanks for looking that up
