Should I buy a salvaged title Tesla? I see lots of people selling them, saying they have papers from Tesla certifying the cars are safe. Would I be safe if Tesla certified the car? Who is fixing this salvaged teslas in the first place?
As a general rule, I would stay far away from any salvaged vehicle, especially an electric one like a Tesla.
More specifically...
I would not take those "certified papers" claims at face value. Tesla has a lot of rules about "unsupported vehicles", and on their own webpage they recommend against buying a Tesla with a salvage title. (link at bottom of post).
Even if they are officially determined to be safe by Tesla, the vehicle will have a low residual value due to it being a salvage title. Any major repair is likely to be cost-prohibitive relative to the value of the vehicle. And Tesla might not be willing to service the vehicle due to its status, Financing, insuring, and eventually trading in or selling the Tesla is probably going to be a headache as well.
