Toyota Matrix Transmission

I have a 2010 Matrix, automatic, 1.8 L, with 64000km.

When do I need to change the transmission fluid?

Owners manual just says to inspect fluid at regular intervals when I change the oil but doesn’t specify if it needs to be changed .

40k miles right now, are you doing highway or city miles?

Also have a read through this article compiled on the forum

Generally depending on conditions its between 30-60k miles

Assuming it was never changed in the 11 years your car has been serviced like most cars, if it still looks good, you probably don't need to. you can get it changed if you really are that worried. Take it to a tech and see what they say. If it's clean I'd say just leave it as it's probably a daily. All the cars I've had never did a tranny fluid change and all still run great, 2001 corolla with 240k miles, pontiac grand prix 240k miles, etc.

Note: There are mixed reasons and it differs from mechanic to mechanic about whether you should or not. From what I understand it's more or a newer car service. But it's a toyota so I'm sure you will be fine if you choose not to.

I'd do it now or soon depending on the condition of the oil and your driving conditions. Check the link I gave above for more info, or see the FAQ below.
