I have 2007 Toyota Prado with almost 500 thousand km 🙂 3.7L 4 cylinder,
the battery light comes on only when I drive more than 30 km and goes off when I restart the engine (waiting about 10 min).
I did measure the voltage across the battery when the battery light off showing 13.6v and the alternator working fine but when the battery light on the alternator not working and the battery voltage is 12.4v.
the alternator it seems working only when I start the car for about 10min-20 min then goes off agin.
your opinion is important to me .

Load test the alternator too.
electronics are affected by temperature. Probably best to just replace the alternator. Congrats on reaching 500k.
maybe get the battery tested first in case there is some crazy smart sensing going on.

I test the battery and it’s in great condition 87% life remains.
The only thing now to change the alternator?
