- I got a brand new Toyota rav4 2020(non hybrid). When I stop at red light and press my brake the engine turns off automatically. I also keep my break hold engaged so I can lift my foot off the break. When the engine turns on automatically after a minute because of climate control (air conditioning) it makes a cranking sound.
This doesn't happen when I manually start the engine by pressing gas pedal.

Welcome the the stupid world or auto start/stop technology. You just might want to think about reading your owner's manual, just for laughs.
There should be a button somewhere marked with the letter "A" that you press after staring the engine to shut off this ridiculous feature.

I had no idea Toyota made start stop tech that was non hybrid. Interesting.
