Toyota RAV4 Transmission Leak

Hi Scotty,

I have a 2016 Toyota RAV4 FWD. There was a transmission issue that caused the transmission to be replaced under warranty three years ago. However, recently, when coming back from a road trip, I noticed noises and vibrations coming from the transmission and noticed oil leaks. I took it to a dealership and, apparently, the previous transmission replacement left out a plastic plug and there has been a hole on the top of the transmission for the past three years, leaking fluid. I took the car back to the dealer, and they simply 'solved' the problem by putting back the plastic plug and refilling the transmission (they said that it was 1L low). The vehicle is running fine now, but I've driven ~600 miles home on the highway since low fluid symptoms first appeared. I wonder if this would affect the longevity of the transmission? Should I be worried?

Thanks!

I hope the second dealership recorded their findings, as if your transmission fails prematurely due to the first dealership’s incompetence, you should be able to make them liable.

Maybe ask for a further extended warranty for your transmission.

I guess other experienced members can chime in on this one..
