When Scotty is tromping on it to see the pick up and shifting does he put the pedal to the floor and hold it there. If so is that bad for the engine.

I'm not a subscriber to the Italian Tune Up theory. Any time you apply increased stress on a mechanical part, you are shortening the lifespan. The more stress, the shorter the lifespan.

The bigger problem though is people who like to "speed shift", "WOT shift", or "No Lift Shift". Whatever you want to call it. It is when you hold down the gas and shift gears hard in a manual car without letting off the gas pedal. Words can not explain the amount of damage that shifting method does to even a well built machine. 99.99% of drivers out there aren't as good as they think they are, and all kinds of fun thinks get broken. Shift forks, clutches, flywheels, transmissions, motors......not a good way to drive a car.

You'll have some guys that use the excuse of "if I lift, I lose ground for the second I'm shifting." Yeah, well the solution to that is MORE. POWER.

But anyway, I think Scotty just boots it. Most of his cars he drives are autos anyway.

It’s called an Italian tune up & if done once in a while (with moderation), shouldn’t cause major engine damage. Not unless the car is on its last legs, anyway..

Yeah it can be bad but not nearly as bad as starting your car up which is when the most damage is done to an engine although I don’t think he slams it to the floor he probably puts some foot into it but probably not to the floor, maybe or maybe not I’m not sure
