Toyota with a bicycle hitch

I thought I could attach a bicycle hitch to my Toyota but I noticed that the owner's manual forbade me from attaching a hitch. Is this something that should care about ? Scotty/Mods please advice

It’s a corolla

They don't recommend it. What car is that?

I would agree with Toyota that you shouldn't TOW anything with a Corolla. BUT - the hitch mounted bicycle carrier is lightweight, and much more convenient than the usual strap-on bike racks. I used a hitch-mounted carrier on a Sienna, and I loved it - it was so much easier to pop on and off the car, unlike the usual strap-on bike carriers. Now, with the roof-rack bike carriers, you don't have to take them on and off, but they reduce mpg, and it's very awkward to  load and remove bikes, compared to racks in the back of the vehicle.

It is a corolla , thanks for the comments

Well, it seems Auris is better built since it can tow smaller trailers.

Screw Toyota.  It's your vehicle, do what you want.  Towing a 25 pound bike isn't going to hurt anything.
