Scotty is the Toyota Yaris a good quality Toyota car? (asking for a friend)
You are in the United States and there are many newer variants that are rebadged Mazdas. The "Yaris IA" and "Scion IA" and 2019+ "Yaris" are some of those. Now the best quality Yaris imo is the 2015-2017 ish generation.
They can last a very long time they are very reliable but usually they lack the driving experience you would get from a more agile small car. The ride, safety, size, and lack of features could be reasons to NOT get a Yaris. On the other hand, if you don't care of the driving experience or if it is fine to you, you are impressed by the gas mileage, and you like the idea of a small practical car, a used Yaris could be a great idea! Just note the older generation the 07 08 ones were horrendously unsafe so I would focus on the 2013+

Note, the current generation of Yaris in the US is a rebadged Mazda.
Other countries may actually sell a Yaris by Toyota.
If you want to buy rebranded Mazda 2, I recommend you take public transportation.

They are only rebadged Mazdas in certain years. I assume your friend isn't getting a brand new one right? A 2015 or so would still be a Toyota. Now truth be told I heard the Mazda one has a lot better driving dynamics but if you are looking a Yaris you really don't care about it. The thing is for a similar price you could get a Corolla which is a better car.
What is your budget so we can give recommendations. Is it the same friend looking for the Astro with a 5k budget?
oh no I just wanted to know if it was good or bad car, he wanted a Yaris but now wants a van because of his large family
Well it is an OK car the Corolla/Camry is much better though. Also, if he has a family, why put them in the Astro deathtrap that is sort of given.
well now that I think about it he wanted a good 1st car and said he prefers something big enough to drive his family in but he will take a Camry any day so there you go
