TPMS

Hi, I have a 2008 Honda Pilot with about 130,000 miles on it.  The current tires have about 3/32" of tread so I am looking at replacing all 4 tires next summer or fall.  The current TPMS units are working fine.  Would it be advisable to change out the sensors when I put the new tires on or just wait.  I prefer to stick with OEM.  If the sensors have user replaceable batteries, I would do that if an option.

I say, leave them alone! In place, if they hold pressure well. When these sensors finally do trigger the light, … just ignore them, get a piece of black tape to cover a light and buy a decent tire gauge and throw it into a glove box, … than make it a routine, check pressure, … say, biweekly. It’s a much, much cheaper option than buying and installing a new set of sensors!

How old are the sensors? Usually they hold 5 years as I am familiar.

Hey G.T.....these are the original (2008) sensors. Been through two sets of tires.

when you see the price to replace them, you might decide to wait .

That car is 12-13 years old.  TPMS sensor batteries usually don’t last that long, but yours managed it.  It’s on burrowed time, so so I would get the sensors changed when the tires are changed out, so you don’t have to go back.  I did the same thing early 2020 on my 2009 truck.  Sensor batteries generally go 7-10 years, generally.

If your budget does now allow to also replace TPMS sensors, you can forego them for now, and then later install these when they finally do go:

Thanks guys.....I will just wait until it time for new tires and change them out then, even if they are still working OK. No sense in leaving sensors installed that are living on borrowed time.

In Canada, they will charge you for the TPMS anyway unless your car don't equip with it

Who?

Costco, Canadian tire, etc. you can check out the costco canada website yourself.

the legal minimum tire tread where I am is 5/32" so you would already be getting a ticket.

It's 2/32" here. Car just passed inspection a month ago. Guess I need to avoid taking my car to your part of the world. 🙂
