I was gifted a 02 Camry 4 cylinder, automatic with 152k miles. Sometimes cold startup takes few seconds to get into drive, but usually only happens in the morning. Other than that runs great. Even got a spare tranny from junkyard on the way just in case.
We just picked up a 08 Solara Convertible, in great shape inside and out. 151k miles. But overheated. Needs head gasket replaced. Recently had water pump, timing belt and other things replaced at dealership.
My friend is offering to let me keep the 08 Solara and he will fix the head gasket, in exchange for my 02 Camry, and my 03 Pontiac vibe with 145k, the Pontiac needs some body work and has some electrical stuff going on.
Are these convertibles worth it? I don't mind the higher gas prices for a nice newer car! Was taken care of by a somewhat wealthy couple in big island of Hawaii.
Test drove Solara, shifted fine. Drove fine.
But overheated. Needs head gasket replaced.
You don't exactly know if you only need headgasket or more.
I would not gamble it.
