Can a Honda Pilot or Toyota Highlander tow a 3000lb RV trailer without causing engine/transmission problems; (both are rated at 5000lbs in the AWD configuration). Looking at cross country trips. Would a better choice be the 4runner or honda ridgeline.

You should not have any issues with either. For longevity, use the 4Runner but for a smoother ride, Honda Ridgeline is better.
