Transfer Case Fluid

Hi all,

I noticed that my maintenance schedule for my 2022 Edge AWD mentions nothing about recommended intervals for replacing the Transfer Case Fluid. I couldn’t find it in the FAQs either. Does it have to be changed too, like oil and transmission fluid, or is it lifetime?

My mechanic says he has no idea either and has no way of determining it so I’m asking the Scotty community instead. Sorry for taking up your day

There is no such thing as a "lifetime" fluid. In the absence of any maintenance information I'd probably change it ever 50K to 60K miles. However my only experience with transfer cases have been the old-school mechanical type used in vehicles like the old AMC Eagle and 1990s Jeep Cherokee. I've (thankfully) never had to deal with a complex electronic AWD system. Perhaps someone who has worked with them would have more specific advice.

changing it along with transmission fluid is a safe bet. See FAQ for more info.

I change it on my 2009 truck at the same time as transmission fluid changes, which I perform every 40,000 miles.
