I have a 1998 Buick Lesabre with 179k and previous owner has never changed the transmission fluid or filter. Is it a good idea to change fluid and filter?

what is the condition of the fluid? How well does the tranny shift right now?
The fluid is a dark red/ brown and it shifts pretty well no problems at all
I would change the fluid + filter, yes.
Keep the old fluid in case there's any issues afterwards.
