I have a 1996 jeep Cherokee 4.0 liter with 211,000 miles. When driving for about 15 minutes it down shifts from over drive to 3rd gear or sometimes 2nd gear. When it does this I pull over and turn the jeep off then start it back up, it resets and drives for 10 minutes or so then does it again. Anyone knows what makes it do this?

When is the last time fluid was changed? Is the fluid burned or gritty? Check shift solenoids, electrical connectors to the transmission, and transmission controller. That's an Aisin-Warner (Toyota) transmission and they are very reliable but age, mileage, and neglect still take their toll.
