Hello Scotty, 1989 Pontiac Grand Am 2.5 litre eng. 210,000 miles. Shifting transmission from park to R or D, 1,2 produces no engagement but a slight vibration. Only when you high rev engine will it engage and transm starts working. When it does engage there is a hard clunk or grab/lurch. Easy/cheap fix?

No it means the transmission is going out and sleeping like mad. You could try taking a quart of fluid out and put in a quart of Lucas anti-slip in but that would only be a Band-Aid if it did even help at all
