04 dodge ram stalling at a stop

My 2004 Dodge Ram 1500 4x4 with the 5.7 is randomly stalling at a complete stop. The issue started the day after I changed my transmission filter. I have the 545RFE 5 speed transmission with the 15 bolt pattern.

Researching this problem it seems it's a common issue among dogs rams. Lots of people recommend cleaning the TB, replacing plugs, coils, egr ect. Biggest issue is I'm not throwing a code for this condition. I had a crank position code several months back and replaced the sensor and haven't had a code since, but I read a chaffed wire to the sensor grounding out could stall the vehicle.

I'm going to check the wires after work, but I feel like this issue is some how related to the transmission.

I don't think it's a transmission issue. You said you weren't getting any codes. I would check the Idle air control valve and see if it's faulty or dirty.

My guess is it's dirty. I pulled the lid off my air box at work after it stalled and I can see oil and carbon build up in the intake hose. Didn't have my tools on me to go further than that. I'm about to take it apart now and see.

The IAC sensor had carbon build up. I cleaned that off. The throttle plate was crusted with carbon and the ring build up was stick. Giving it a few days to see if the problem happens anymore.

Great job! Please keep us updated if the issue reoccurs.

Did it again this afternoon. Two theorys I'm working with is truck not being up to operating temp, or vehicle slowly creeping right before a complete stop.
Warmed the truck up this morning and drove to work fine no issues. Started it at lunch drove down the road about 2 miles pulled into a parking spot and it stalled. I ran to 2 more places within a few miles of each other and truck was around operating temp. When I pulled into the parking spot real slow it stuttered a little and RPM dropped, but didn't stall out.

When did you last change out the fuel filter?  Ever?

I replaced the fuel pump over the summer, but I'm not sure about the filter. Wouldn't hurt to change it since the truck is at 302,000 miles.

I'm going to replace the fuel filter now that the throttle body and sensor were cleaned. Appears to stall under a cold condition.

Found a possible solution related to the transmission. A pinched seal on the transmission pan allowing air to get into the transmission and aerate the fluid messing with the sensors causing stalling on deceleration. Going to check this out later tonight.

Trans pan bolts were under torqued. After getting them torqued to spec and driving around on this cold morning the issue has not happened. Over the next few days I will see if this fixed the problem.
