Hello I have a 2004.5 Dodge Ram 2500 diesel automatic trans I bought the truck with 247000 and am now at 287000 I want to do the transmission fluid and filter change but don’t know that it’s ever been done before I’ve been told it could actually cause the transmission to fail if I change it out and it’s not been done before to me this doesn’t sound right but figured I’d ask first thanks in advance

That is correct. If it has not been done before and you put new fluid in, it will start slipping.
