Transmission Fluid change

Hey Scotty, I have another question about my truck. It’s a 2011 GMC Sierra 1500 Z71 it has the 6 speed automatic transmission (model number 6L80E i believe). It currently has 102,500 miles, I bought it with 82,000 miles and I spoke to the previous owner and asked if he ever changed the transmission fluid when he owned it and his answer was no. The transmission works great and shifts very smoothly but I was wondering if I still should change the fluid along with the filter since the service is overdue. I checked the fluid level and it was where it should be and the fluid didn’t look terribly dirty. Let me know what you think, thanks for your time.

If it does not have a burnt smell to it, change it (drain and refill), but make sure you keep the old fluid just in case you need to use it.

Agreed with Yaser, a drain and fill is as far as you want to go.  Since it's overdue (probably WAY overdue if it has hauled heavy loads or towed anything), you probably want to treat it with extreme caution.  No flushing it.  This would make a good question for Scotty's videos.

If the fluid seems good, might be a good idea to use the OEM fluid then, considering it held up well.

Thank you guys for your help, the most she’s towed is a camper and she’s only hauled super heavy once or twice. This truck has been babied it’s whole life and I’m trying my best to take care of her and keep her running strong.
