2007 Toyota scion xb manual transmission stopped at an intersection when I tried to go again loud rattle and wouldn't allow into gear but once I got into gear could drive no issue

Do, your first gear is going out. Use the 2nd year to move from stop. Rebuilding that transmission cost a lot of money.
Is it the first time ? maybe you didnt put perfectly into gear and it poped out ?? or pushed clutch only partially ??

Could be the first gear is dying, if this happens more learn to start of 2nd gear, other remedy is to rebuild it, you can safetlly start of 2nd gear it will have slower start but other then that it will be fine.
1#pull bung on transmission check for metal, replace with 75W/80 filler bung on side some time you remove battery and battery housing for easier access , (small bearings at both ends- one end of lay shaft which gears pressed on, small balls are bearing, chips are gear teeth, gold colour fillings balk ring)-very serious you need some experience to tackle it. if no metal in transmission oil, 2# two cable selector arms of box under battery or reach around, check push connects aren't worn or cable pop of holder to bulk head cheap fix cable tie or new push on Gromit.
if balk ring is gone it is hard to change gear or select unless you let car roll as you select gear, if gear is gone you would hear it hum or shattering noise are drive at low speed.
