Hey Scotty I have a 1998 Toyota Tacoma 4cyl automatic 198k. I cannot diagnose my transmission problem. It shifts fine but once I get passed 60mph, it won’t go into overdrive. It just revves the engine up real high but won’t shift, I can touch my foot to the floor and nothing but it does downshift perfectly. Tranny fluid and filter are new and it shifts perfect in normal city traffic. Please help I’m annoyed of all the tranny shops trying to sell me a rebuild!
You say the transmission fluid is new. Was it by chance the first time it was ever changed? Did you flush the system or just drain and fill it?
@mod_man it was just a drain and refill with new filter. It was doing this prior to that I thought maybe changing the fluid out but didn’t do anything
Well it may actually need a rebuild. Sounds like your overdrive may have gone completely out. Only way to fix that is to open up the trans and replace the gear.
