Have a 2005 Lincoln aviator AWD and my check transmission light came on and right after it said transmission over heated can I help please and it's a lil hard when I shift

Does the transmission have a leak? Have you ever changed the fluid? Do you drive it hard? The main culprit for transmission overheat is you don’t have enough fluid in the transmission or it’s having to work overtime and it can’t cool down quick enough. Ideal temps for transmission range from 175-220 depending on transmission manufacturer. After that for every 20 degree jump the failure rate doubles on the transmission. I would find a really good transmission shop and have them do a good one over on it to make sure nothing has failed yet.
